One Billion Acts Project (Periods 2 & 5)
In class you will get into groups based on the area you put on your worksheet at the beginning of the year (Billion Acts worksheet).
With your group you will get a science display board and put the following information on it:
Board requirements
1. Title (Should be large enough to see clearly and from a distance)
2. Images associated with the topic
3. At least 10 facts about the topic or associated with the topic. (Make it interesting. Find facts/info that would catch people's attention and help them remember it.)
4. Websites where students can go to get additional information.
5. How students can get involved? Volunteer opportunities or ways they can make a difference.
6. Sign-in sheet to demonstrate how many people came by to get information and learn about your cause.
The following are optional to include with your presentation:
*Flyers with general information that students can take with them.
*Laptop or tablet (for example, showing a video of your topic)
*Stickers with a catchy logo related to your topic
You need to watch a documentary based on your topic. Here are your choices:
Education -- "Teach us All"
Environment -- "Before the Flood"
Poverty -- "Poverty Inc."
Global Health -- "What the Health"
Human Rights -- "The E-Team"
Racism and Hate -- "The Rachel Divide"
Women and Children -- "The Ascent of Women"
Clean Water -- "The Future of Water"
Disarmament -- "The White Helmets" or "Enough is Enough"
Conflict Resolution -- "The E-Team"
Questions
I will be coming around to each group and will ask the following questions:
1. Why is this topic important to you? (You can be honest.)
2. Do you believe that one person can make a difference? Why or why not?
3. What did you learn from the documentary related to your topic? (It could be something from a general fact or a scene that impacted you.)
4. Do you think your presentation today will make a difference? Explain how.
5. What is the main reason that people do not become more involved in solving these issues? Explain.
Presentations will be on May 21st for Period 2 and May 24th for Period 5.
It will take place during lunch so be prepared to either bring lunch with you to eat by your board or eat afterwards.
