Week of September 18-22

Period 1 *Read "On the Education of Youth in America" on Commonlit. *Answer assessment questions. *Watched video clip on the life of Benjamin Franklin. *Issued Benjamin Franklin Project due September 28th. *Read "The Salem (and other) Witch Hunts" on Commonlit. *Take intro notes for "The Crucible" play by Arthur Miller. **Complete membean for the week.  If you still have to make-up membean you need to make sure to complete 90 minutes total (45 minutes from week of September 5th and this week). Benjamin Franklin card assignment (Period 1)

After watching the video about Benjamin Franklin it is time to have some fun and create a card based on Benjamin Franklin's life and lessons he lived by. You will create a card including the following information: 1. On the front of the card pick and write down a famous aphorism from Benjamin Franklin.  Use this website:  https://www.poorrichards.net/ 2. Include an image of Benjamin Franklin on the front cover. 3. On the inside front cover you need to write five facts about Benjamin Franklin. 4. On the inside back cover you  will write down one of the virtues he lived by.  Select one of the virtues from the list provided in the Commonlit passage from his autobiography.  Explain in a few sentences why you picked this virtue and how you could apply it to your own life. 5. Odyssey Project (Periods 2 & 5)

Now that we have finished reading The Odyssey, you will be using a Greek urn to retell the story of one of the characters from the story. In class you will select a number that represents one of the characters from the epic. You will receive the outline of a Greek urn in class and complete the following: 1. Write the name of your character using the Greek alphabet on the front of the urn. 2. Draw or find a picture of your character and put it on the front of your urn. 3. Draw or find a picture that includes a scene from the epic with your character. 4. On the back of the urn write a 20 word summary or less of what your character's impact was on the epic. 5. Present your urn to the class. Projects will be due September 27th (Period 2) and September 28th (Period 5). Worth 10 points doubled.

Returning from Hurricane Irma

As we all try to get back to normalcy after Irma I want to refresh where we left off and what I have planned: Period 1-- We left off with summarizing the Declaration of Independence and answering questions on Commonlit for the Declaration and Bill of Rights. We will be moving on with Puritan literature by starting the Crucible. Period 2 & 5-- We left off with the quiz on the Greek Epic notes and Books 1-9 events. We read up to Odysseus returning to Ithaca and defeating the suitors. We will finish reading the excerpt from the Odyssey. A Greek Urn project will be issued in class. Periods 3,4,&6-- We left off with the rough draft of Rhetorical Analysis essay (intro and body paragraphs in class). We started PSAT practice packet. We will be finishing the rough draft of the Rhetorical Analysis essay and continuing with PSAT practice. Welcome to my English class! You either have me for English I Gifted, English III Honors or AP Language and Composition. There is a lot going on in my classes on a daily basis so please refer to this website for assignments, projects and general information. Make sure you pay attention to the class because you do not want to end up doing work that does not pertain to your period. I hope you use this website to your advantage.
