Rhetorical Analysis of Song Lyrics (Periods 3,4,6)

We have analyzed text and visuals for rhetoric, but before we finish the nine weeks it would not be right to forget about song lyrics.  Most songs impact us in some way so lets see why. The Crucible Project (Period 1)

Once we finish reading the play you will be responsible for completing one of the following projects: Choices-- A. Create an alphabet book where each letter of the alphabet represents something from the play.       Example: A for Abigail -- one of the main girls that is accusing women in the town of being a witch. B. Create the front page of a newsletter for Salem where you write at least four articles.  Your articles can explain events from the play, analyze a character(s), and/or give an opinion about the events. C. Create a collage that represents different ideas from the play.  You can have images of people that represent the characters, symbols that represent the themes, etc. to create the collage. D. Create a Bio-Poem for one of the characters from the play.  Use the following format: Line 1: Your first name Line 2: Four words you would use to describe yourself Line 3: Begin your line with “Related to” and tell about 3 family members you ...

Wallstreet Journal Assignment

On the AP Lang Exam it is important to be up to date on current events because that may help you with the open-ended argument essay (Essay 3). You will take a Wallstreet Journal newspaper home and over the next two weeks gather one article related to each of the following topics: 1. Politics/Government 2. Economics 3. Environment 4. Your choice Make sure you write a summary of each article (include the who, what, when, where & why). Assignments are due-- October 23 for Period 3 October 24 for Period 4 & 6 Worth 8 points doubled. This will be the last major grade for the nine weeks.

Nobel Peace Prize Research Project (Periods 2&5)

Students will be given a Nobel Peace Prize winner to research in class. You will gather and present the following information in a Powerpoint or Prezi presentation: 1. Name of person 2. Picture of person 3. Where are they from? 4. What category do they represent: Disarmament, Peace Congresses, Brotherhood between nations, promoting peace or human rights/negotiations. 5. Why were they selected?  What was their major contribution to society? (Do not copy and paste. You need to put the ideas into your own words.) 6. Do you believe that this is still an important issue in today's world? Explain your opinion. You can use the following website for more information:  Nobel Peace Prize You will make your presentations next week. Period 2 -- October 18 Period 5 -- October 19 Share your presentation using the "share" link on Powerpoint (look for Catherine Manfra) or you can share through google docs. This project is worth 10 points doubled .

Week of October 3-6

Introduction to PeaceJam (Periods 2&5)

We are going to begin discussing a program called PeaceJam in class over the next few weeks. I want you to watch the following video that gives a brief history of how PeaceJam got started and I want you to post a comment below telling me what you think about the program and whether you are interested in what it has to offer? If you have heard about the program before let me know in your comment. Make sure you have posted a comment by midnight, October 8th. Your post is worth 5 points.

Visual Rhetoric Assignment (Periods 3,4,6)

In class we went over the presentation on visual rhetoric.  Here is the link if you need to review the information:  Purdue Visual Rhetoric At home you need to complete the following and bring completed to next class: 1. Find a news photograph (can be from newspaper or magazine based on a news event). 2. Write an analysis of the photograph based on the areas we discussed in class. 3. Find an advertisement image. 4. Analyze the advertisement based on the elements we went over in class. Be prepared to share your images and your general thoughts. *Assignment can be typed or hand-written.  Images need to be printed or Period 4 & 6 due on Friday, October 6th. Period 3 due on Monday, October 9th. Worth 10 points.
